About Elizabeth’s background

I began my yoga studies at the age of 18 as a way to relieve the physical pain I experienced from chronic scoliosis. After several years of regular practice and devotion to the New Paltz Ashtanga community, I received my CYT-200 with Michael Stein in 2011. I went on to receive my 1200 hr certification from SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine: Thai Yoga Center as an Certified Advanced Thai Yoga Practitioner (CATP) in 2015. I also received my CYT-500 with Tara Judelle and Dr. Scott Lyons in Embodied Flow, a system of yoga that merges traditional yogic practice with somatic movement therapy. I went on to complete a 9-month immersive training focused on meditation, pranayama, and yoga philosophy with David Harshada Wagner in 2018.

My intention and philosophy as a yoga instructor

In some styles of Hatha yoga, asana is the primary focus and the instructor is the means to know the asana. The student learns the asana from the teacher. In this way, the student does not actually have to be "present" and is considered a secondary agent of the practice. In Embodied Flow™, the innate wisdom of the student expresses itself through asana with the support of the teacher. In this way, the student is the primary catalyst of their own journey and is a crucial component of the practice.

My intention is to support students to find a deep sense of ease, strength and self connection while encouraged to be their own greatest teacher as they expand awareness of their bodies and minds. Students of mine can expect to have a deep experience of your own embodiment through a challenging yet nourishing physical practice, along with lots of encouragement for moving at a slow, patient pace while cultivating laughter and play.

My current yoga offerings

I currently offer weekly drop-in yoga classes, 3 hour workshops, 7 week long seasonal series, and private sessions in yoga instruction. Although offerings vary in theme, all of my offerings bring forth my inspiration in yoga philosophy and somatic movement so that students may experience yoga as a living art form.

Weekly Yoga Classes

Offered through Whole Sky Yoga (Stone Ridge, NY)

Online or Virtual Options available

Embodied Flow: Saturdays 8:30am ET

Embodied Flow™ is an integrative movement practice that merges yogic philosophy with somatic inquiry to experience yoga as a living art form. Each class explores various themes and aspects of the body/mind such as physical systems, pathways of weight and energy, and experiences of our consciousness that inform new ways of being in the body. Embodied Flow™ offers depth of experience to a consistent asana, dance, and/or exploratory movement practices.

All Levels: Sundays 10am ET

All Levels Yoga is suitable for students across the spectrum of yoga experience, from beginner to advanced. Students can expect to practice a balanced blend of yoga postures, meditation and breath-work, with variations offered for those who want either a more relaxed or challenging approach to the practice. Each week’s class explores a theme which prompts students to connect to the season of life that both they and the natural world are both currently in.

Strong Vinyasa: Mondays 10am ET

Strong Vinyasa links yoga postures with breath to create a flow and ease between challenging sequences of asana. As a more rigorous practice, we explore strength-based postures and sequences with discernment, so we can develop a deeper listening to the body about when to progress and when to back out of poses to meet our natural edge. Classes are playful and challenging. Some prior experience with yoga asana and vinyasa practice is recommended.

Yin Yoga: Tuesdays 4:30pm ET

Yin Yoga is a muscularly passive practice that emphasizes exploring the connective tissues of the body - such as the fascia, ligaments, tendons, and joints - through longer holds of supported postures. The time, space and stillness found within yin postures supports breath connection, silent self inquiry, and meditative awareness. Yin yoga practices allow us to experience states of surrender, presence and settling through the release of active movement.
